Herbicides used to grow genetically modified corn are largely to blame for destroying the milkweed where they lay their eggs. I have traveled to one of their home places in Mexico and have seen their migration numbers shrinking. The grouping of 5 pieces represent the collective experience of a shared ritual in progress. 2024 Exhibition Ghost Trees; an homage to the vanishing White Birch Tree In the last 10 years I began noticing fewer White Birch Trees, due in large part to Climate Change. They were often falling down or were dead on the ground. I also found that many were being cut down to be sold as decorations in local stores. I created Ghost Trees as a subtle reminder that these majestic trees used to inhabit this area in abundance. The environment is changing, and these trees are in need of protection. Some states have already issued a protective law to prohibit the cutting down of the White Birch tree.
